Hike No. 3 – February 10, 2013 – Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve

For Hike No. 3, I chose the the largest local open space preserve: Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve near Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, CA. http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_sierra_azul.asp

This moderately difficult hike of 6.7 miles along the Limekiln and Priest Rock Trails had some very steep sections. There were also some trail washouts from recent rains that made me glad that I had my hiking poles with me! At the top of the Limekiln Trail, there was a great view of Los Gatos and Southern San Jose (see above)

Note to self: Read the topo map more carefully before climbing up the Limekiln Trail next time!

That’s 3 hikes and 17 miles…37 hikes and 183 miles to go!
