“On The Swichbacks” Devil’s Slide Trail, San Jacinto Wilderness Area, on the way up to Tahquitz Peak. The origin of Tahquitz’s name is derived from the Cahuilla god Tahquish who believe the peak to be the god’s home. This hike was a pretty grueling 2,500 foot climb to reach the fire lookout on Tahquitz Peak. To reach the peak, one must travel on a portion of the PCT…so, I was able to log a tiny fraction of that trail! Permits were required and US Forest Service Rangers were on the trail monitoring and helping out hikers where needed. I loved every minute of it!
