The Thursday Picture – Why are they hiking with giant backpacks?

Following Climbers

On my recent trip to Castle Rock State Park (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=538), I found myself following a bunch of college age hooligans – no doubt, up to no good!

Of course I’m joking. Castle Rock State Park always seems to be filled with college age kids hiking and climbing. I also see lots of families..and, old guys like me…hiking through this magnificent state park.

Oh, those giant backpacks are actually “crash pads” that the rock climbers place below them when they are working difficult bouldering problems here in the park.

If you’re looking for me, don’t look for me carrying a crash pad…because, I’m over the hill.
