The Thursday Picture – Emerald City

This week’s Thursday Picture was taken on my hike through the Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. My goal for the day was to hike up to the Bald Peaks (at least I think that is what the summit is called!). There is a great view of the southern Santa Clara Valley as well as the Santa Cruz Mountains to the south and the Diablo Range to the east.

As you slowly climb up to the Bald Peaks, part of the Mayfair Ranch Trail travels along Baldy Ryan Creek through a north facing canyon. Now, even though this part of California is suffering through an extended drought, the trail along this canyon was as green as…well, as the Emerald City! It’s been quite a while since I have seen a canyon this green at this time of year before the rainy season starts.

Quite a hike…through the “Emerald City.”

Rancho Canada del Oro OSP –

So, where are you hiking this weekend?

If you’re looking for me, I’m over the hill.

    • Normally, yes. However, we are going through a severe drought here in California. I’ve hiked so many “brown” trails this year, that this “green” trail was a fantastic change of pace at this low elevation!

      Thanks for your comment!
