The Thursday Picture – Fall TBT

Franciscan Loop Trail - Hike No 28

Franciscan Loop Trail – Hike No 28

Today’s Thursday Picture was taken almost exactly this same day two years ago on a hike through a wet and very green and brown forest.  I remember that this was the first hike of 2013 where I really felt like fall had arrived.

This shot was taken at the Los Trancos Open Space Preserve in the Santa Cruz Mountains above San Jose/Silicon Valley.  Los Trancos OSP is one of the smaller preserves.  However, there are some interesting places to hike.  For instance, you can hike nearly directly above the San Andreas Fault!  On a clear day, you can even spot San Francisco (which I didn’t see) and Mt. Diablo (which I did see!).  A great place to hike with some good loop trails that aren’t very steep.

So, what are you going to do this first weekend in fall?

If you’re looking for me, I’m over the hill.

Hiking up to the top of the Spring Ridge Trail @MROSD Windy Hill OSP. I took a water break and checked out the incredible view behind me. That’s Mt. Diablo in the distance, towering over a fog bank that entirely covered San Francisco Bay, while in the foreground, the beautiful Portola Valley. Hike No. 3 for 2014!
